A mental health resource for your business
Many businesses now subscribe to services that offer immediate support therapy for their staff when they are struggling with their mental health or are in crisis.
However at Therapy in Mind Services (TIMS) we also recognise that a lot happens prior to a member of staff reaching out and using these services. Often staff may already be absent from work due to being unable to cope with working whilst also managing their stress, depression or anxiety.
This is a problem for several reasons; it may mean that recovery takes longer which in turn frequently makes a return to work more daunting, it can also lead to individuals becoming more ‘vulnerable’ to future occurrences of depression.
At therapy in mind services we are aware that not everyone wants or needs to engage in therapy and therefore we offer low intensity options and courses that offer skills for life with further support there for any one who needs us.
Why should this matter to businesses?
Well of course caring about a person’s wellbeing is always important but current evidence also suggests that approximately 12.7% of all sickness and absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health.
According to the Mental Health Foundation; Better mental health provision has the potential to save UK businesses up to £8 billion per year.
Promoting wellbeing at work through personalised information and advice, a risk-assessment questionnaire, seminars, workshops and web-based materials will cost approximately £80 per employee per year. For a company with 500 employees, where all employees undergo the intervention, it is estimated that an initial investment of £40,000 will result in a net return of £347,722 in savings, mainly due to reduced presenteeism (lost productivity that occurs due to an employee working while ill) and absenteeism (missing work due to ill health).
